Explore what we offer

At James River Counseling Center, we provide compassionate, evidence-based mental health care in a comfortable and confidential setting. Our highly personalized approach is tailored to your individual needs and focused on helping you achieve your personal goals. We also offer telehealth services to any Virginia resident.

Individual Counseling

Life's challenges can feel overwhelming, but you don't have to face them alone. Our individual counseling services provide a safe, confidential space to work through personal struggles, develop coping strategies, and move toward the life you want. Telehealth appointments are available for all Virginia residents.

Couples Counseling

Every relationship faces difficult seasons. Our couples counseling provides a calm, neutral space where partners can slow down, be heard, and find their way forward, whether you're navigating conflict, rebuilding trust, preparing for marriage, or simply wanting to grow closer. We use evidence-based approaches tailored to where you are as a couple.

Family Counseling

Families are made up of different people at different stages, each carrying their own needs, perspectives, and pressures. Our family counseling creates a space where each member feels heard and where the whole family can work toward healthier patterns and a shared sense of stability. Whether you're navigating a major life transition, a blended family adjustment, or a longstanding tension that's ready to shift, we're here to help your family find its footing.

Clinical Supervision

We provide clinical supervision for provisionally licensed LCSWs, LPCs, LMFTs, and other clinicians working toward licensure or seeking to enhance their professional development. Our supervisors offer thoughtful guidance, case consultation, and support to help you grow as a practitioner.

Child/Adolescent Counseling

Children and teenagers face real and often complex challenges, from anxiety and behavioral concerns to school struggles, family changes, and the pressures of growing up. Our therapists work with young clients in a warm, age-appropriate way that helps them build resilience, express themselves, and thrive. We also support parents throughout the process, because lasting change happens best when the whole family is connected.
